The Open Door

Where are you right now?

Pick the door that sounds most like you. There is no wrong one, and you can always step back out and try another.

It's fine if it's 2am. It's fine if you're not sure what you believe. Come in.

Five doors

  1. Door one

    I'm curious about Islam

I'm not Muslim. I have questions and I'd like honest answers, without anyone pushing me. Come in
  2. Door two

    I just took my shahada

It happened, and I'm so glad. Now I don't know what comes first, or what can wait. Come in
  3. Door three

    I'm in my first year

The first rush has faded. I want to keep going, and make this my own life, not someone else's. Come in
  4. Door four

    I'm Muslim and struggling

My iman feels gone, the doubts are loud, or I've stopped praying. I don't know who to tell. Come in
  5. Door five

    Someone I love became Muslim

My child, my partner or my friend has become Muslim. I want to understand, and stay close. Come in

Free to read, no account needed. Every page here is open to you without signing up. If you'd like a gentle note now and then, you can leave your email for our newsletter. It's optional, and you can unsubscribe any time. Like most websites, we use analytics to see which pages help people.

Behind every door

How every page here works

This is really common, and you're not doing anything wrong.

Every page here starts the way a good mentor would: with you, before any ruling. Then it takes you one calm step at a time.

Whichever door you choose, the pages inside follow the same shape, so you always know where you are.

  1. Your question, in your wordsNot a textbook heading. The thing you actually typed at midnight.
  2. A two-minute answerShort enough to read on your phone, honest enough to trust.
  3. What is agreedWhat the scholars agree on, said plainly.
  4. Where scholars differSet out fairly, so you are never told one view is the only one.
  5. One thing to do this weekSmall and doable. Not ten things, and not everything at once.
  6. A real person, if you want oneA mentor, a helpline or a local imam, whenever a page is not enough.

Talk to a real person

Sometimes you need a person, not a page.

We are a library, not a counselling service. These organisations have real people who listen, and we are glad to send you to them.

If you are in danger Call your local emergency number now. You can also find a crisis line in your country.

For your own situation For a ruling on something personal, like a marriage or a debt, please ask a qualified scholar or your local imam.

A note on safety No one from How to Muslim will ever message you privately, or ask you for money in a message. If someone does, it isn't us.

The door stays open.

Come back whenever you need to: next week, next year, or tonight at 2am. Nobody here is keeping score.
